Ninh Binh

Una vez pasada la ciudad de Hoi An, solo me quedaba una semana para disfrutar de Vietnam. Dudaba. No sabía si ir hacia la zona de Sapa o si elegir otro destino muy turístico del país: la Bahía de Halong. Noviembre no suele ser un mes adecuado para decantarse por esa parte del país. Es temporada de lluvias, y temía encontrarme con un temporal oscuro y fresco, en un lugar ideal para tomar baños de sol y entregarse a deportes y actividades acuáticas. Sapa es una zona rural de Vietnam, y tampoco me atraía demasiado en ese momento.
Conozco bien el interior de Bali, los arrozales…y buscaba otro tipo de paisajes.
Por suerte, la zona de Ninh Binh apareció en mi mapa. La gente conoce la zona por pretender ser una suerte de ‘Bahía de Halong’ terrestre. Cuevas, lagos, paisajes vírgenes y menos poblados o masificados…Elegí visitarlo sin dudarlo. ¡Y no me arrepiento de nada!
Situada a unas dos horas en bus de Hanoi, Ninh Binh es la ciudad de referencia para ver Van Long, Tam Coc y el area del que os hablo en el post de hoy.
Hay muy pocos hoteles en el lugar. Solo guesthouses y hostales rudimentarios…Pero tuve la suerte de poder alojarme en el complejo más alucinante de esa parte de Vietnam: el hotel Emeralda. Lujo, un entorno impresionante (llegas en dos segundos en bicicleta a las cuevas de Van Long), una comida y un servicio sin igual…y la posibilidad de visitar los diversos lugares de interés de la zona con mucha facilidad.
Decidimos alquilar una moto con chofer durante un día, para así poder diseñarnos una ruta que nos permitiese ver lo que queríamos sin prisas y como queríamos. ¡Y qué visitas! Baí Dinh quedará impregnado en mi mente para siempre. Los templos, el espacio, la energía del lugar son una cosa indescriptible que no puede faltar en vuestra ruta de viaje por Vietnam.

Once I passed the city of Hoi An, I only had one week left to enjoy Vietnam. I didn’t know whether to go to the Sapa area or to choose another very tourist destination of the country: Halong Bay. November is not usually an adequate month to opt for that part of the country. It’s rainy season, and I was afraid to put myself into a dark and cool storm, while Halong is an ideal place to sunbath and enjoy water sports and activities. Sapa is a rural area of Vietnam, and I wasn’t, indeed, too much attracted by that kind of trip at the time. I know the interior of Bali well, its rural places and rice fields … and I was looking for another type of landscape.
Lucky me, the Ninh Binh area appeared on my map. People know the area for pretending to be a sort of ‘terrestrial Halong Bay’. Caves, lakes, unspoiled landscapes and less crowded place … I chose to visit it without hesitation, in the end. And I don’t regret anything!
Located about two hours by bus from Hanoi, Ninh Binh is the referencial city to visit Van Long, Tam Coc and the area of today’s post.
There are very few hotels on site. Only small guesthouses and hostels … But I was lucky enough to be able to stay in the most amazing resort in that part of Vietnam: the Emeralda Hotel. Luxury, a breathtaking setting (it’s only two seconds by bicycle from the caves of Van Long), amazing food and service … and the possibility to visit the places of interest of the area very easily.
We decided to rent a motorcycle with a driver for a whole day, so we could design a route that would allow us to see what we wanted without hurrying. And what visits! Baí Dinh will remain ‘printed’ in my mind forever. The temples, the space, the energy of the place are an indescribable thing that can not be missed on your Vietnam trip.
